The Integrative Medicine Fellowship is offered in the Division of Integrative Medicine of the Department of Family Medicine. The OSU Center for Integrative Medicine (CIM) is an outpatient practice in the Primary Care Network. The CIM faculty represent each of the 5 NIH-defined domains of Complementary/Alternative Medicine (CAM) coming from Integrative Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics. Integrative medicine is an approach to health and wellness that integrates conventional Western health care practices with CAM modalities appropriate for the patient. The Ohio State University Center for Integrative Medicine is committed to providing evidence-based Integrative Medicine services to patients and their families.
Physicians today must have basic knowledge of various health belief systems that influence health care choices and have a working knowledge of integrative medicine and CAM modalities. This knowledge is essential for physicians to converse knowledgeably with their patients, avoid complications from interactions, and to exercise appropriate judgment regarding the ultimate care of the patient. They must be aware of which elements of CAM practice are based on adequate research evidence and which remain unproven.
