Children’s Hospital Close-to-Home Physician Care Centers Children’s Hospital Close-to-Home Physician Care Centers provide community-based physician services for children (ages birth to 21). Care includes regular physical exams, vision, hearing and general development checks, and immunizations against childhood diseases. Children's believes that no child should be refused necessary care and attention for lack of ability to pay, thus the Physician Care Centers (n=8) provide care to low income and disenfranchised populations although together they serve a broad demographic. Payer mix is commercial manage care 33%, Medicaid 32%, Commercial Indemnity 19%, Medicaid Managed Care 11%, Self-pay 3%, and Other 2%. Children’s Hospital Behavioral Health Services
Children’s Hospital Behavioral Health Services (CHBHS) is the largest provider of outpatient child and adolescent mental health service in Central Ohio. The majority of assessment and treatment is provided through Guidance Services, located at the Children’s Hospital Close-to-Home Centers. Guidance Services provide a multidisciplinary approach to behavioral health services with approximately 65 full time equivalent clinical positions including psychiatry, psychology, social work, counselors, and substance abuse professionals. In 2002, the Guidance Services provided approximately 22,000 visits to 3830 children and their families. Visits include psychiatric assessment and medication consultation, counseling services psychological assessment and community supports services. While the majority of services are provided from one to the Close-to-Home locations, approximately 31% of services are provided in the youth’s natural environment, including home and/or school. Referrals are received from a broad range of referral sources. Also, the current payer mix includes the following: 48% publicly funded, 39% insurance, with the remaining in the “other” category. A total of counseling hours at Children’s Behavioral Health Care Centers for the year 2003 were 90,012.
