Dr. Buoni to serve as Advocate in Allies for Equity Initiative

William Buoni, MD, Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, has been selected to serve as an Advocate in Ohio State’s Advocate and Allies for Equity initiative, which is part of the President’s 2020 Vision of Inclusive Excellence. The purpose of this NSF-funded program is to engage male colleagues as advocates and allies for the advancement of Ohio State women and underrepresented minorities.

Senior male faculty and administrators who already have a substantial record of supporting women staff and faculty will lead the program. These Advocates will lead facilitated conversations to encourage other men to become Allies to help the university become a national leader of inclusive excellence.

The Women’s Place, Ohio State women’s policy office and agent of culture change, with the support and collaboration of other key stakeholders, will lead implementation and institutionalization of the initiative. As an Advocate, Dr. Buoni will play an important role in improving the university’s campus climate for all its employees and students. The term of appointment is for one year, with optional renewable terms.
