Dr. Randy Wexler on CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight: Shortage of Doctors in the U.S.

In a book to be published in October, Dr. Chris Ellison, chair of the department of surgery, and co-authors, Drs. Thomas Williams and Bhagwan Satiani, address the combination of factors that is predicted to lead to a shortage of surgeons in the United States, and to physicians in general. The book, The Coming Shortage of Surgeons : Why Are They Disappearing and What We Can Do About It? will be published by Praegar Publishers.

On September 10th, 2009 CNN did a special on the issue on the Lou Dobbs Tonight show. In preparation for the show, CNN personnel were on The Ohio State University campus filming and interviewing various persons. They specifically wanted to focus on the predicted shortage of family physicians as well. Dr. Randy Wexler was identified by the Medical Center's Communications and Marketing Office to be interviewed. He captured well the problem of primary care physician shortage and placed the issue in the broader context of health care reform.
