In a report about a new Disney Channel series, Doc McStuffins, the Columbus Dispatch did a story about the Artemis Medical Society, a Facebook creation of black female physicians. Dr. Angela Tucker, Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, was a founding member of the Artemis Medical Society, a group of medical doctors, medical residents, and medical students nationwide. It functions to build a network of support, mentoring, and education for themselves as well as black girls interested in medical careers. The Society and the Disney Channel series are needed because fewer than 2% of U.S. physicians are black women.
