Dr. Milisa K. Rizer was recognized as a Trailblazer


Dr. Milisa K. Rizer was recognized as a Trailblazer, and honored at the Smart Business Magazine’s Smart Women Awards breakfast held on Tuesday, August, 15, 2017.

The Trailblazer recognition is given to a woman who has risen through the ranks, while facing challenges and overcoming them along the way.

Dr. Rizer, Chief Medical Officer, Professor of Family Medicine, Nursing and Biomedical Informatics, was the first Chief Medical Information Officer at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

She has represented Ohio State and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) as an evaluator of health information technology, both nationally and internationally. She was one of the first physicians to achieve board certification in Clinical Informatics, and has helped lead the clinical implementation of the Enterprise Electronic Medical Record in Ohio State Wexner Medical Center ambulatory and acute care settings.

Dr. Rizer founded the OHCMIO group, which brings together chief medical information officers from across the state to discuss and devise plans affecting health information technology for Ohio citizens. She has served on the HIMSS Physician Advisory Group, and on the HIMSS/AMDIS (Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems) physicians’ executive symposium planning committee for 3 years. Dr. Rizer is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, board certified in Family Medicine as well as Clinical Informatics, and is also a Fellow and a certified professional in HIMSS.
